About Strand Book Store
In 1927, twenty-five-year-old Ben Bass opened the Strand Bookstore on Fourth Avenue, then part of “Book Row,” a six-block stretch in Greenwich Village that once housed forty-eight bookstores. Today, The Strand is the largest independent bookstore in New York City. It carries more than 2.5 million used, new, and rare books, ranging from classic literature and current releases to out-of-print titles, art monographs, and signed first editions. You can visit us at our flagship store in Union Square, our beloved kiosks in Central Park, our Upper West Side location on Columbus Avenue, or our newest store at Lincoln Center.
Wherever you find us, we’re proud to be the city’s bookstore, a place where books are loved and book lovers of all kinds are always welcome.
